What is Time?

I believe we can all agree that telling time is simple. However, explaining the concept of time, like any other abstract idea, can prove to be quite challenging. True, all mammals (humans), insects, reptiles, and amphibians operate according to different time schedules. Biological processes in organic beings act as a sort of natural clock. Consider some of the things in nature you know happens every x amount of seconds, days, or even months.

I found that there are different concepts of time. In America, we adhere to the principle of linear time. It is past (over), present (12:01 AM, 3:35 PM, 8:03 PM, etc.), and future (Jan. 3018 and so on…). There exists Cyclical time. Its prevalent in oriental cultures. Essentially they take a point or instance in time and monitor the time until the instance occurs again. Additionally, how we look at time affects how we conceive life and how we go about it. We have formed concepts of death, events, the astrophysical (really complicated stuff), and more based on our perception of time.

Here are the Cyclic and linear concepts of time:

Time is a truly complex matter. It’s one of those things in the world that exists everywhere in the universe (planet Earth) but is not universally agreed upon. Some people account time by orbit around the sun, by events/occurrences, and more. In fact, I can argue that time is a human-made concept and doesn’t exist at all. Time is only a system we invented to help structure our survival. Because we created time is it possible to go back?
