Visual Analysis of Nike’s Colin Kaepernick Ad

In September of 2018, Nike released its now widely known ad, showcasing Colin Kaepernick as its latest ambassador for the “Just Do It” Campaign. This is just 2 years after Kaepernick’s famous act of protest against nationwide police brutality, an act which received two very different, very emotional responses from American citizens. Right in the middle of the image is the quote, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”

One of the reasons this image was so striking to me was because of its simplicity. Everything about it seemed so deliberate, making it all the more impactful. I wanted to explore the decisions behind each aspect of this ad, as well as the impact it had on its audience. Through my Prezi analysis (linked below) I explore the themes of color, expression, the man inside the photo, the symbolism behind this new addition to a famous campaign, and the few words now famously associated with this image.
