Topic: Pajamas in public

• Points of view
  • Pajamas are not appropriate attire in public. It presents a disheveled, unkempt appearance to those around you.
  • Pajamas are just another form of clothing, so wearing them in public is fine. One can dress for themselves and their own comfort as opposed to dressing for other people.
  • Depending on the type of pajamas and how they are styled, pajamas can be acceptable and a fashionable form of public attire.

• My Thoughts
  • I think pajamas in the context of fleece, plaid pants and a t-shirt are not appropriate for public attire. I think it presents a lazy message that one does not care about their outward appearance. However, pajamas like silk separates, slips and robes can be elevated with a polished hairstyle, fresh makeup, and heels or trendy footwear. This style of dress may be appropriate in certain settings such as nightlife or a weekend brunch.
• My Involvement
  • I have always had an affinity for fashion. I began dressing myself and mixing and matching outfit separates since I was a toddler. I’ve been allowed to explore my interest in fashion without restriction. I began working in the interior design industry when I was 21, and now at 23, I am working more specifically in fashion. Outward appearance and looking put-together has been a very important aspect of my life, and I pay close attention to current trends and how I can interpret them through my own personal style and incorporate them into my own wardrobe.

  • Inference from premises: To talk about and/or critique fashion, you have to know fashion. I have studied fashion as my hobby. I am familiar with many of the traditional, anchor, design houses in fashion. I have worked in fashion as a stylist. I have friends who are designers of fashion. I know fashion, therefore I am right.
  • Arguments from examples: Fashion designers design fashion, which sets a market trend that trickles down into regular department stores for the average buyer. Stylists style fashions into unique outfits, making style.
